While residential security is vital, so is commercial security. In some cases, commercial security is considered more vital as the value when it comes to store inventory can be exponentially higher. When commercial buildings have the right security, it can drastically change how a business operates (for the better).

Night vision is a security feature that many business owners tend to overlook, however. While this is understandable, as the feature is generally considered quite niche, it is important nonetheless. To learn about night vision cameras and their vital role in commercial properties & their security, check out the information we here at Smart Vision Plus have come up with below.

Night Vision: What Is It?

While the term itself may be self explanatory, how does night vision work in a security camera and why is it so beneficial?

In simplest terms, night vision technology gives security cameras the ability to operate/clearly monitor situations in low-light/no-light situations. This means that at nighttime, where there is little to no light, night vision security cameras work to monitor this area with the best clarity possible. This is done by using two technologies:

  • Infrared Illumination: Cameras that use night vision are equipped with devices known as IR LED’s. These LED lights bounce off the objects in their environment and return back to the sensor of the camera. From there, the camera’s sensor will convert this reflected light into videos/images, creating a clear image from a dark scenario.
  • Thermal Imaging: While infrared devices use light to capture images from dark scenarios, thermal imaging devices track heat in the surrounding environment to create an image. Once the detectors in these cameras find heat from objects in the area, it creates an image out of it. Thermal imaging usually tracks humans and animals incredibly well, making it a viable monitoring system for dark situations. This technology does make it harder to identify criminals, however, as the image is more simplified.

The Benefits of This Technology

While residential areas usually have a lot of light activity through both the day and night, businesses often turn all of their lights off upon closing. With this darkness, crime can be more prevalent and criminals will feel more comfortable breaking into an area such as this. When you have cameras installed around the property (and specifically night vision ones), however, this will not only deter potential criminals but monitor them even in the darkest of situations. If you have a parking lot or a back alley that is dark as well, these cameras are best utilised in these areas.
